Spiritual and material culture are creations of man, they allow for the survival of mankind, the satisfaction of its needs and the development of its abilities. In the culture of the 21st century, an important task is the creation of human behaviour subordinated to common social patterns and models. On 16 December 1996, the Main Board of the Society for the Memory of the Greater Poland Uprising in Poznań, considering the necessity of shaping national identity and preserving the history and significance of the Greater Poland Uprising 1918/1919 for our nation and the Polish state in the memory of society, and also wishing to inspire and honour those people and institutions which are or were distinguished in the accomplishment of the aforementioned goals through interesting and important popularisation, creative and scientific activities - established the Honorary Award: “The Drummer of the Greater Poland Uprising”.
